Slater & Gordon
in 2008, the Slater & Gordon asbestos research fund granted $120,000 over two years to The Baird Institute for the set up of a research scholarship on malignant pleural mesothelioma. the scholarship was awarded for 2009 to Dr. Tristan Yan to complete his work on the study of surgical management of mesothelioma at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
Medtronic
The inaugural Medtronic Aortic Disease Fellowship was awarded to Dr James Edelman in 2010. Some early findings from the project have been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at the Annual Scientific Meetings of the Australasian Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.
St Jude Medical
The St Jude Medical Aortic Disease Fellowship was awarded to Dr Hamid Mollahajian in 2010. This fellowship allows him to undertake a full-time PhD, researching biocompatibility of vascular grafts, under the supervision of Professor Paul Bannon at the University of Sydney.
