Doctor Vikrant Dhurandhar was born in Mumbai, India. In 2009, Vikrant graduated from Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College, Pune, India with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.

Vikrant developed a keen interest in cardiothoracic surgery during medical school, which was hightened whilst completing a one-year internship at B.Y.L. Nair Hospital, Mumbai, India. His inclination towards research led to a presentation on Ocular manifestation in HIV patients during medical school.

In March 2012, Dr Dhurandhar moved to Sydney, Australia to undertake a full-time PhD in Surgery, at the University of Sydney. He will be researching the different aspects of surgical techniques in high-risk cardiac surgery, specifically coronary artery bypass grafting and mitral valve surgery, under the supervision of Professor Paul Bannon.
